What am i doing wrong?
Hello, me and my friend recently started a pvp guild called Forsaken Seraphin [GoD], we've got a cape, almost full Guild Hall, site, vent server and we plan on doing mainly HA and GvG. I decided to ask for some help because it's not going very well. I recruited like mad in RA and soon we got some 15 members with 5 officers, but what happens?:
My friend tells every1 loud and clear that we were holding a HA battle at an exact time and when it finally was that time, only 4 members showed up including me and my friend! I had a difficult choice, because i did not have the power to kick/criticize the people who didn't showed up because we need them for the guild. So every time i recruit people that are good members, they leave because of the inactive members who don't participate in the activities. Sometimes i think it's because me and my friend are in no position to specify: 'members must be rank... or above' and thats why we get lowsy members. Plz give me advice on this and if possible answer this question: Should i try to keep a PvP guild small (~20 members) or should i try to max it out? What do i do with people who ignore activities: punish them/warn them/kick etc. , this is hard for me because they don't need me, I need them. Thx in advance Last edited by Pericles; May 28, 2007 at 03:04 PM // 15:04.. |

Small guild is the best way to do pvp. HAving a big guild mean some of the players would need to wait at the reserves till someone quit.
Forcing people isn't the way to do it. Mutual understanding between players are much more important. Get those similar time zone people and arrange a time when everyone can play. *Everyone have life outside gw and you can't just force them to attend* Noting that you recruited like mad in RA, did you check with their background or location? Maybe you recruited a +12GMT and you are in the -12GMT. Try to find those who can play in your timezone and preferably time area like 8pm-12am. Setting a time range before recruiting any random people you see in RA. If they can't meet the time range, don't bother inviting. Last but not least, they must share the same interest as your guild. |

Since it seems that yours is not one of the "we are 8 people without real life who will do GvG/HA every evening as our only hobby" guilds, there is not a lot you can do about it. My guild has been around for 8 years, and people still show up late for events. Why? Maybe they have something important to do, maybe their work schedule interfered, maybe they simply forgot. You cant make everyone be there at one exact time if you are playing a game people use to relax.
The best way to deal with it: Be part of an alliance (or have a large friends list), so that you can have guests to fill up the ranks. - Xeeron |

Anyways here's what you can do, to better prepare yourself and your future guild mates to becoming a more successful guild. Make use of your forums. Have your forum link posted in the guild status. Have you and your friend set up on the forums a PVP play schedule, something to recruit and work around with regarding play times and future recruits. Make a "Missing In Action" MIA thread within the forums for members to post when they will be away, or what nights they can not make. Based on what you have set up for the above, RECRUIT MEMBERS around that(ie players time zones which compliment you and your friend) Specifically recruit on a PVP only basis with PVE as an afterthought. Once you get at least 10 players who all know they will be playing in a PVP setting around certain times things will start to gel. For a casual PVP guild which is what I think you're going for around 25 members should do MAX. If certain players continue to not play or show up for at least half the time your other guildies do show, simply show them the door. Once you have a decent amount of players recruited, you will either have to get someone who can make a PVP build or copy one from obs mode. Have the build you want to play linked in GUILD STATUS using this site for people to view the build. http://gwshack.us/ To make builds please play around with this tool which can upload the code to the above link. http://www.gwfreaks.com/ Hope this helps. Remember though, use the forums and decent guilds start with decent specific recruitment guidelines. Make a foundation and people will come. Don't recruit people in RA. Recruit people that are serious about PvP.

Recruiting in RA gets you PvE'rs. Of course they're not going to want to go to HA...
In fact, spam recruiting without any screening at all is a bad thing in general. Large guilds are bad for real PvP (discounting RA and AB). No one wants to see 30 other members online but can only field 6 people for a GvG. Sometimes you just have to get the trash go and start with people who want to PvP. |
